Post Listing Update: This little Gixxer did not meet reserve with 10 bids up to $6,450.
Suzuki introduced the GSX-R400 in Japan in 1984, and it was a bit of a revelation as it was about 30-70 pounds lighter than the 400cc offerings from Yamaha and Honda. In 1988, Suzuki redesigned the bike with a new frame and they introduced a SP (Sport Production) model. SP bikes got were designed for production racing and Suzuki’s SP bikes were only offered in blue and white. Here’s a rare example that has made its way to the United States.
The SP bikes gained fully adjustable suspension and a close ratio transmission. Despite all the cool changes for the SP model, Japan’s strict power restrictions meant the 398cc inline-4 engine still produced 59 horsepower. For more on this rare sportbike, check out this model history on Suzuki Cycles.
This example (VIN: GK73A100160) has 16,667 miles and is claimed to be in excellent unrestored condition. It is stock, with the exception of the 4 into 1 exhaust. As these were never officially sold in the United States, this is a grey market JDM import and there cannot be many of them in the US.
