As it was never officially sold in the US, Yamaha’s TRX850 is a bike that I’ve never heard of before. But with MCN calling it (in hindsight) “the best-kept secreting in motorcycling” and a “forgotten gem,” this bike is definitely worth a closer look. The oversimplified idea was that this was a “Ducati with Japanese reliability.“
The parallel twin 849cc engine produced 79 horsepower and it was the first production engine with a 270 degree crankshaft. Sales were disappointing and Yamaha killed it after 4 years, but the bike seems to be remembered quite fondly by moto-journalists and owners.
This example has about 31,000 miles and was brought in by the seller, who bought the bike in England. This example has been modified with a R6 shock, calipers from a R1, LED tail light, Remus mufflers, and some carbon fiber cosmetic pieces.
