I’m disappointed to see such an unique rig go up for sale, but hopefully it finds a new owner within the Bike-urious ranks. Reader Mike B. has let me know that he has to let his Honda VF1000R with Motorvation sidecar go, and this thing is too cool not to share.
The VF1000R was released in 1984 to showcase technology that had been pioneered in Honda’s racing bikes and homologate them for production based racing. Unfortunately, the bike ended up weighing well over 550 pounds, so racing was a bit out of the question. But despite the extra weight compared to the VF1000F model, the R got plenty of upgrades, including gear-driven cams, upgraded heads – bumping power to 125 horsepower, TRAC anti-dive on the front forks, and the first usage of a ventilated disc brake on a road bike. The Motorvation Formula II sidecar was the first sidecar to have an independent brake and trim adjuster, and can handle either one large person, two teenagers, or even three small kids.
This specific Honda VF1000R with sidecar has 30,000 miles and just completed a week-long trip in the Adrondack mountains. It’ll comfortably do 80-90 miles per hour and is being sold to fund the restoration of a racing sidecar. The bike has had a mechanical refresher, including the heads and camshafts – and it has a DRP top end oiler. The sidecar comes with carpet, the tonneau cover, soft top, a headlight, and the electric lean feature.
Find this Honda VF1000R with sidecar for sale here on Craigslist in New Gloucester, Maine for just $6,000.
