Reader Ride – 1986 Yamaha Radian YX600

In Japan, Standard by AbhiLeave a Comment

Introduced as an all new bike, the Yamaha Radian YX600 actually was a bit of a parts-bin special – ignoring the bodywork, the only unique parts were the front forks and rear shocks. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t an enjoyable ride – think of it as a standard with V-Max inspired styling, and an affordable way to get into what’s becoming a new wave in classic bikes.

Yamaha Radian YX600 - Cockpit

The 598cc inline four put out 66 horsepower, good enough for a top speed of 125 miles per hour. Thanks to its reasonable price, the press loved it – Cycle World called it the best buy of the year and Cycle Guide called it the Bike of the Year in 1986. Yamaha Radian YX600 - Front Right

This specific Yamaha Radian (VIN: JYA1UJ00XGA001848) has 4,486 miles and is claimed to look nearly new. Flaws are limited to a paint chip on the tank and a barely noticeable crack in the front fender. The seller suggests that you should replace the brake fluid, but that’s all the bike needs. Grab yourself a former bike of the year and increase that odometer reading!
