When the seller of this Ducati acquired this bike 44 years ago, he got it as “an ex-racer in several boxes.” Fast forward to last year, and he decided to give it a refresh. In his words, it’s not a 100 point bike, rather it’s “a nice example of one of Ducati’s most beloved and sought-after supersport bevel singles.” Whatever you want to call it, it looks like a fun runner offered by someone who appreciates the marque.
Because the bike was bought in parts, it wasn’t 100% clear what the exact year or model was. Per the work of Ian Falloon, the seller has identified it as a ’65 Mark 3, though it has an Oregon title as a ’67. The motor was rebuilt from the main bearings out, and it now features a 76mm JE piston. It’s got zero miles on it so you’ll need to break it in. Modifications to the rest of the bike include a Tommaselli throttle, period Koni shocks, Dunstall Decibel silencer, and a custom paint job on the tank. The sale includes a parts manual as well as a copy of a story the seller wrote for a Ducati owner’s club newsletter about “a novice mechanic’s many months of trying to bump-start a recalcitrant Italian single without fully understanding the concept of “reserve” on fueltaps and the importance of gasoline to the internal combustion process.”
