Post Sale Update: After being relisted, this Paul Smart sold for a BIN of $13,000.
This is the cheapest asking price I’ve seen for a Paul Smart in years, but there’s a good reason why – it’s been crashed and rebuilt. The seller explains the rebuild process (which includes a frame inspection by Dr. John), so if you like what you read this might be a relatively cheap way of enjoying the Paul Smart riding experience.
This example (VIN: ZDM1WABP46B004198) was acquired by the builder (Randy Rodriguez) in 2009 from a salvage yard, several parts had been sold off of it. Randy sourced another crashed PS and then scavenged parts to use in this one. There’s a long list of replacement parts, including the tank, wheels, rotors, headlights, fairings, seat, etc. The front forks are from a 1000S (not the OEM Ohlins units) and there’s several aftermarket parts like Termi exhaust, and the Ducati race ECU (not installed). In 2016, this was entered into the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance. The seller doesn’t specify when he acquired it from the builder, but it’s been “ridden occasionally” since. So what do you think? Is this worth riding if you can’t afford a mint Paul Smart? Or is it a disappointing semi-replica?
