Many MX riders consider the big bore two stroke days when you could get a CR500, KX500 or this KTM 500 MX to be the peak of off-road dirt bikes – when manufacturers were getting so out of hand that their flagship bikes were only mastered by a select few. If those were the days that you now look back on longingly, you may find yourself drooling at this supermoto that started life as KTMs biggest, baddest MXer.
The frame, engine, transmission, and swingarm are original but nearly everything else is modern and upgraded: forks and brakes are from a 2006 KTM SMR, the rear shock and plastics are from a 2004 KTM SMC, the triple tree is an adjustable KTM unit, the carb is a Mikuni VM38, and you’ll also get Excel wheels and a DynoPort exhaust pipe. This winter the bike got a top end rebuild, fluid changes, and new coolant hoses. If you’re like me, you’re going to want to know more about what it took to built this bike, and thankfully the seller’s got you covered with this build thread. Here’s an album on Photobucket if you want to see some progress pics.
