An evolution of the A65 Rocket, the Lightning Rocket was an upspec version with twin Amal carbs, high compression pistons, and an optional close ratio gearbox. Cosmetically, it had extra chrome and narrower fenders/fuel tank.
1965 was the last year of the Lightning Rocket in the United Kingdom, but the bike was designed to compete in America. Still, the A65L Lightning succeeded this bike and it was better known over the years. The Lightning Rocket featured a 654cc parallel twin motor that pushed 48 horsepower through a 4-speed transmission. Top speed was approximately 115 miles per hour, and dry weight was 395 pounds.
This example is claimed to be fully restored and as such the seller suggests that it looks “like new”. Since the “frame up and bare crank up restoration” was completed, the bike has 200 miles on it. While the sale is in Florida, the bike has a clear Louisiana title. Find this Lightning for sale in Edgewater, Florida for $5,900 here on Craigslist.
