Post Listing Update: This Spitfire got no action at the opening bid of $8,500.

1968 was the last year of the “Mark” Spitfires, and just 1,291 of them were built. Improvements over the MkIII included Amal Concentric carbs and a twin leading shoe front brake. Here’s a beautifully restored example that features the Euro market (read: much better looking and larger) fuel tank.

There were additional changes – Lucas ignition points that were adjustable independently, a bump in power to 54 horsepower, and some improvements to the oiling system. Top speed was approximately 115 miles per hour and the dry weight was 408 pounds.

In addition to the Euro tank, this example (VIN: A65SS11617) also features the Euro market handlebars – the US got a smaller tank and higher bars. There have been no miles on the bike since the restoration, and the bike shows less than 500 miles on the odometer total (but the seller cannot verify that this is the true number). Part of the restoration included a needle roller timing side main bearing conversion, Tufftrided crankfshaft and cams, new cables/wiring harness/Boyer electronic ignition/coils/tires/paint/chrome, etc.
