Based on Yamaha’s R3, the TR2 (along with its baby brother TD2) was a revelation in privateer racing. These bikes were instantly competitive and stayed that way for years – the TR2 had a 350cc engine, the TD2 had a 250cc.
When I say competitive, I mean it. In 1970, Rodney Gould won the 250cc World Championship on a TD2! Kel Carruthers placed 2nd. For moreo n the TR2, check out this profile from Classic Yams.
This numbers-matching example (VIN: 900115) was restored “to better than new” and has since only done a parade lap at Homestead. The seller notes that it’d be ideal for display as the original spec tires have been installed, but it ‘could be raced if desired’.
