This one is for Abhi, as we all know he has a soft spot for BMW’s. This is a completely restored 1970 R75/5. I’m not a BMW expert, but this was early in the run, so I assume it is the short-wheelbase model, which supposedly had some handling issues, especially if heavily loaded in the rear. The /5 models ran through 1973, to be replaced by /6 and later, /7 variants. There were numerous changes throughout the model years. There is an interesting summary of some of them here. I’m sure the BMW experts will know some of the key things to look for.
This R75 has had pretty much everything gone over and either replaced or rebuilt. There is a long list of the work done in the ad, and it certainly looks beautiful. If you bought this bike and plan to keep it a long time, you will come to appreciate the stainless mufflers, fasteners, and spokes. The owner does not mention the mileage, but the speedo shows 39,400. With the work done on the engine and drive train, I would imagine this bike is good for many, many more miles..
Everything is blasted and polished. Look at the heads, carbs, and those drum brakes…
