Puch called it the DS60, though you may have seen it in the US as the Cheetah – it was sold through Sears Allstate department stores. Pre ’65 models featured a twistgrip shift, later bikes went to a foot shifter. These aren’t too hard to find (I’ll share three with you in this post), but it’s rare to see a restored example. Is someone looking for a solid example of a scoot they started riding with?
This example (VIN: 7905996) was disassembled and then rebuilt – according to the seller “all parts have been painted, polished, or powdercoated this year.” The engine was rebuilt with a new piston and clutch, and anything that needed to be replaced was either NOS or from Motor West, a noted Puch specialist. Note that it’s still missing the carb intake cover and the factory muffler, and that the carb could use a little tuning. Find this Cheetah for sale in Conneaut, Ohio with a BIN of $3,000 or best offer
Or, if you’re looking to spend a little less and don’t mind a non-restored example, here are two others to consider:
1962 DS60 – $1,110 or best offer – no title, claimed to “run like it should” in Columbus, Ohio
1963 DS60 – $1,400 or best offer – non-original paint but said to be in good condition with new piston/rings/engine seals as well as new tires and tubes in Andover, Massachusetts
