We’re seeing a lot of OEMs build modern bikes designed to look like old ones – here’s a custom effort that tries the same thing, taking a 900SS ie and trying to make it look like the black/gold Darmah stunner from 1978. This generation of Ducati’s air-cooled SuperSports wasn’t particularly loved by the public from a styling standpoint. Does this make it better or worse?
This example was built by Barn Built Bikes and debuted at the 2020 Verona Motor Bike Expo. Highlights of the work include a Conti exhaust, Alpina wheels, Daytona speedo, Barnett clutch, TRW clipons, and of course, the custom bodywork. Bonus points for the see through fuel stripe on the tank. The bodywork (particularly the tank) looks just a pinch too high to me, but there’s no way I could do this myself and I never cared for how the 900SS ie looked anyway. How do you think this bike came out?
