Back in the early oughts — long before Harley had even begun development of the Pan America — Buell dove headfirst into the ADV market with the Ulysses XB12X. Between the sportbike-like handling, the in-frame fuel reservoir, and the large, floating front rotor, it was undeniably forward-thinking for its time. Admittedly, however, its reception was pretty mixed; the styling was quirky, and the off-road performance wasn’t quite up to par with that of proven platforms like BMW’s GS.
The XB12X you see before you, though, is an entirely different beast. Commissioned by Texas-based Rebel Yell Bourbon and built by renowned customizers Revival Cycles, it was thoroughly transformed into a knobby-tired scrambler named ‘the Bueller’ in 2016.
Aside from the more obvious differences — like a new aluminum subframe and a welded faux-tank — you’ll find that the team reworked the suspension with some Aprilia fork lowers and stiffer MX-ready springs, swapped out the controls for some MotoGadget switchgear, and chopped the exhaust to add some extra clearance. It still seems like a lot of bike to huck around in the rough (weight is pretty much unchanged at 425lbs), but it does look like it’d be a good deal more fun.
Currently for sale in Austin, Texas, this Buell has covered 7,200 miles since its rebuild. You can find it here on eBay with a BIN of $25,000.
