Roland Sands Designs has been designing award-winning riding-gear and performance parts as well as building countless award-winning custom bikes of just about every type. To model the myriad of aftermarket and performance parts for the Harley-Davidson Softail, an engineer at RSD has built this beautiful custom 2005 Night Train Softail made up of almost two dozen RSD components. While anyone with a Softail could in theory order all of these RSD parts, the professional supplementary touches such as the custom seat and pin-striping cement this Night Train’s status as a one-off, true custom.
“We really tried to focus on the parts that mattered the most to make the thing look good. Not bolt-on pretty shit, but good shit,” stated Roland, adding, “Jason, my engineer wanted to build a bike out of our products for testing and because he could.”
While the majority of the mods are RSD parts, there’s also many other aftermarket brands featured on the Night Train build. Most of the visible stock H-D components were painted or powder-coated black in addition to the Night Train’s stock, black engine. The hand-tooled red leather seat has a subtle alligator skin underside done by Roberti Customs in Texas. The flawless hand-painted, silver metal-flake pin-striping and hand-laid H-D graphics were courtesy of Chris Wood at AirTrix Industries. RSD and Vance & Hines teamed up to produce the Tracker-style 2-into-1 ceramic-coated exhaust found on this RSD Softail. The custom contrast-cut RSD wheels are sitting on a pair of Metzeler ME880 tires.
The sheer number of aftermarket parts found on this Harley is astonishing. I can’t imagine how much it would cost to build this bike yourself with these same parts but I can guarantee this bike’s sub $20k price tag is a pretty great deal, especially considering it came from RSD. Instead of trying to tell you about every part I’ll just include the seriously lengthy list below. The 1,450cc Pushrod V-twin four-stroke, air-cooled engine features a RSD fuel-injection conversion. You can find this 05’ Night Train decked out in RSD parts for $19,500 on here on Craigslist in Los Angeles, California.
