IZH was best known for making the AK47 assault rifle, though they did have a civilian division that also made cars and motorcycles – production of the latter started in 1927. Here’s an example of one of their most successful bikes, the Planeta.
The Planeta 3 was built between 1962 into the late 80s. It also had a sport model with 32 horsepower, but this base model put down 20 from a 350cc engine. This seller of this example (VIN: T001816) claims that it sat in US Customs for a decade “until sanctions were lifted against the USSR following the Cold War.” The owner got a CA title and put a plate on it and supposedly used it as a daily driver in Los Angeles but it’s been sitting for nearly two decades now and will need some work to get back on the road.
