Post Listing Update: This TDR was pulled off of eBay, final sale price unknown.
With a retuned TZR250 two-stroke motor good for nearly 50 horsepower in a dual-sport frame, Yamaha’s TDR250 was unlike anything available in the US at the time – especially because Yamaha never officially sold it here! A few were sold to our northerly neighbor of Canada, and that’s where this example (which happens to have a VIN that ends in 0000001) happens to live.
Consider that this nearly 30 year old bike makes 13 horsepower more than the just-killed-off-KLR, yet it weighs 92 pounds less! If that wasn’t good enough, check out this article on ADV Pulse for what else made the TDR special, including Yamaha’s assertion that the TDR’s engine was the first two-stroke motor to utilize both a CDI and an electronic advance system.
This example (VIN: JYA3NRN05KA000001) has plenty of use despite the notable production number as it shows just over 11,600 miles on the odometer. Everything is said to work however the seller notes that hte bike will need a new battery, the fluids changed, and a carb cleaning. Per the seller, there are “three small flaws” – a missing seat strap, chopped rear fender, and a crack in a side cover. All issues are shown in the photos. The sale includes the key, owner’s manual, and sales brochure.
