When scouring the interwebs for scoots to feature here on Bike-urious, I’ve always refrained from featuring Ducati Sport Classic 1000 examples, as undeniably special as they are, even the Paul Smart versions in my opinion don’t usually warrant their own post. This ’07 Sport Classic 1000S example however is just too cool to pass up, and apparently I’m not alone in this feeling as this bike has been crowned with seven different awards from shows including winning first place on four occasions, a people’s choice award and a best in show award from various motorcycle shows/events around Texas.
It’s not too often that a production bike that’s had a bunch of stock components swapped out for bolt-on aftermarket parts is able to retain its original prestige but it’s hard to deny the countless upgrades on this Ducati is what makes it special. While some of the cosmetic alterations can be viewed subjectively, it’s abundantly clear that top of the line components were used throughout, that includes the dozens of performance and mechanical upgrades made to the Ducati. I can only begin to guesstimate how much was spent on building this bike as thousands of dollars have been spent on upgrades and services to get this bike to its current form.
Despite the Sport Classic not being the most competent modern motorcycle when it comes to sport performance, this example still received more than it’s fair share of components to lower its lap-times, however hypothetical and unlikely said lap-times actually occurring may be. Starting with the suspension, an Öhlins FGRT 211 Front Fork off a 1098S(R/1198S/R/SP, etc) was mounted up front while the company’s DU707 rear shocks were fixed in back. An Oberon 30MM clutch slave cylinder was utilized along with Brembo 4-piston radial mount calipers.
One of the most noteworthy features of this elite build is its NCR X ZARD Full Titanium Exhaust System (worth a reported $4,500) which was special ordered from Italy. The seller states that this is the same exhaust that came on the (very) limited edition $75K “New Blue” NCR Corse Ducati. A MicroTek ECU with custom dyno tuning and BMC air filter along with a modified air-box were also installed. The heart of the machine is protected by a myriad of top-shelf covers such as a billet crankcase inspection cover, EVR countershaft sprocket cover, NCR aluminum billet cam inspection covers, and a Rizoma black-anodized cable cover. Carbon fiber front fork guards were fixed to the machine to add further protection along with RhinoMoto swingarm and fork sliders.
I personally think this Ducati’s appearance has been tastefully modified, resulting in an unmistakable custom look that boasts factory quality. The build sports Ducati side fairings – which the seller describes as: “Literally Unobtainable!” – that give it that vintage race look that gives the Italian custom a lot of its charter. The custom paint digs are courtesy of Motion Ducati/SBK, and the tank underwent a Caswell coating process and was sealed when the paint was new. A rear-hugger from MotoBrilliance sits below the one-off Sport Classic’s custom suede seat with red “DESMO” embroidery.
A host of custom CNC brackets were made for the build including one-off pipe-bracket, as well as fairing and rearset brackets which allowed a set of sporty Ducabike billet rearsets to be mounted. A pair of black CRG adjustable racing levers and Domino Superbike grips are another quality touch. A seven-inch LED JW Speaker looks the part of the widely-used classic mono-headlight but with a modern spin and far superior illumination. A Fleda Rear LED Light System & license plate mount takes the LED seat-hoop look and classes it up a bit, while high-intensity Watsens micro-LED front turn signals round out the custom lighting on this machine. No one or two elements really transform this motorcycle (aside from the badass NCR exhaust system) but the collective sum demonstrate the thorough attention to detail of this build which is – in a nutshell – why I feel it’s worthy of a post.
In addition to the bike itself, the sale also comes with original Sport Classic satin bike cover, PitBull stand, Ducati OEM short side fairings, full documentation and manuals, the seven awards/trophies the bike has won, and “many” unspecified “extras” according to the seller. A couple photos don’t entirely do this bike justice so I’d highly recommend checking out the ad to see more pictures of the bike, as well as it’s complete parts-list of more than three-dozen aftermarket components and the bike’s show history. The elite two-wheeler has just a hair over 1,500-miles on the odo and has a clean “Blue Texas title”.
