Post-Sale Update: After being relisted, this Harley-Davidson FXS Low Rider Custom sold for $12,500 on eBay.
In 1971, HD released the Super Glide, their first ‘factory custom’. In 1977, the company introduced the Harley-Davidson FXS Low Rider, with a 74 ci engine surrounded by the FL frame. Seat height was just 27 inches, meaning nearly anyone could ride it.
1977 also saw the release of another Harley milestone, the XLCR. But the FXS was an instant best seller – in the first full year of production (1978), this bike accounted for nearly 20% of all Harley sales, outselling all other HD models. The big sales numbers have helped make it a canvas for custom bike builders, like the work from Hickory Flat Hot Rods shown here.
A participant in the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building in 2012, this specific Harley-Davidson FXS Low Rider Custom has had extensive work including a shaved and cut front end, modified gas tank from a 1960 HD Hummer, tail light from a ’42 Chevy, and more. See this link for all the details about this bike straight from the AMD site.
