In addition to a storied history, the BMW R1150GS owes a lot of its commercial success as an adventure bike to the Long Way Round, the story of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman going east from London to New York. Someone’s taken the adventure concept one step further with this BMW R1150GS Adventure with DMC Sidecar attached.
Billed by the seller as the “ultimate go anywhere sidecar rig”, this hack was put together professionally by Dauntless Motors (DMC). Motorcycle extras include the hard panniers and trunk, lots of soft luggage, a SW-Motech tank bag, covers for both parts of the hack, and electrical upgrades like an external battery jump terminal and extra Powerlet outlet.
Non-motorcycle extras include water bottles, gas cans, and a ‘bug-out’ shovel. This rig has 20,000 miles and is claimed to run great. I have to say, it looks good, too, as it wears one of my favorite GS paint schemes. With over $27,000 invested, there’s a lot to like about this bike. It’s rare when I say a $17,000 motorcycle is a ‘good deal’, but this bike might deserve the comment. I’m taking my own R1150GS up to Deadhorse this summer, and I’m wondering what it would be like to take this rig instead. If only it came with that awesome German Shepherd.
