Post Sale Update: This 749R sold for $10,900 after 11 bids on eBay.
While many riders didn’t care to look at the Ducati 749, everyone agreed that the “R” variant was a tremendous thing to ride, thanks to a slipper clutch, Ohlins suspension, and lower weight (despite a larger fuel tank) than the base model. Visordown called it “a nearly perfect bike” that “allows you to push harder than ever”.
It didn’t hurt that the R got a bump in power up to 121 horsepower/62 pound-feet of torque thanks to titanium connecting rods and valves, racing cams, and a shorter stroke with increased bore. In addition to the mechanical upgrades, owners were treated to their production number stamped on the triple tree – and this example also comes with the signature of the man who designed it, Pierre Terblanche.
This example is #104 in the production run. It has 1,780 miles and it’s said to be in “immaculate” condition. On top of all the “R” goodies, this has a full Termignoni exhaust, Puig windshield, Woodcraft clipons, and a “custom fuel injection tune”. The sale includes both factory keys and the red key, as well as all owner’s manuals. Find this 749R for sale in Birmingham, Alabama with bidding up to $9,300
