Yamaha launched an all-new R1 in 2009, and it captured the hearts of many a rider thanks to the crossplane crankshaft that gave the R1 a defining sound and more predictable traction at the limit. The following year, they released a Limited Edition of which featured a replica of the livery on Valentino Rossi’s Fiat Yamaha Team MotoGP race bike. I sometimes get frustrated when companies create “limited editions” where the only difference is a paint job, but this one’s interesting as it’s only got 1,000 miles, it’s never been registered and it’s still on the original MSO, and it’s wearing the original tires. Oh yeah – and it’s been signed by Rossi himself.
To be clear, the 2010 Limited Edition R1 came with a replica of Rossi’s signature on the tank, but this example (VIN: JYARN23E5AA008128) has Rossi’s actual signature on the windshield.
