Clews Competition Motorcycles is a niche British manufacturer that actually goes back to 1971, when BSA’s racing division went out of business. At the time, a gentleman named Alan Clews was in a quest to build the ultimate MX bike, and he figured he could get a head start by buying up everything that BSA was letting go. In 1998, the company was acquired by a new owner who built motorcycles around Suzuki DR-Z 400 motors. It went out of business in 2004 and Alan Crews bought his baby back, continuing the trend of using Suzuki engines. This is the 644DS, a supermoto with the engine from the long-lasting DR-Z 650.

Surrounding the Zook motor were some excellent components – WP/Paioli suspension, Acerbis bodywork, Renthal bars, Mikuni carbs, Brembo brakes. It’s a good list. CCM claimed power was approximately 50 ponies, which was more than adequate for a bike that weighed just 302 pounds dry. 2005 was the first full year that Alan was back in charge, and the horrible quality control exhibited in previous years (especially 2003/2004) were mostly tamed. This bike (VIN: SMZHB64DS3B003385) has 4,907 miles and the seller notes that it was modified from the factory with a 720cc big bore kit and a significant lowering of the seat from 34.1″ to 29.5″. The seller doesn’t specify exactly how that happened but I think it’s a fair assumption that the work was a combination of shorter suspension and shaving the seat. The seller claims that he bought the bike in the UK, imported it, and registered it in the US at a total cost of just under $15,000. His original plan was to ride it down Baja but he was unfortunately diagnosed with glaucoma and the bike has sat since 2005. He/she notes that the decals are stained and peeling, but your bigger problem will be the TLC required to resuscitate a bike from a 13 year slumber. If you think the rarity and performance is worth the TLC, find this CCM supermoto for sale in Houston, Texas with a BIN of $5,000 or best offer
