The R27 was BMW’s last shaft-driven single. An evolution of the R26, the 27 got power bump up to 18 ponies and rubber engine mount. Here’s one of the 15,364 examples that were produced.

Want to learn more about this classic Beemer? Here’s an article from Motorcycle Classics that suggests this will be a future classic. I’m inclined to agree, but I think it will gain value in the way that a Porsche 912 has gained value in the last few years – it got no love for years, but then classic 911s became stratospherically expensive so anyone looking for a reasonable old Porsche was stuck with the 912. As classic original/stock-ish BMW boxers get too pricey, riders will end up driving up prices of the R26 and R27 out of necessity.

This bike (VIN: 377506) has 3,921 miles on the odometer and the seller is calling it a non-running project because the carb needs to be adjusted (though if you head on over to the listing below you’ll see two videos of the bike running). The seller says he found the bike in a garage, where it’s been sitting for the last 41 years. It’s numbers-matching and impressively comes with the original tool kit, tool bag, tire pump, instruction manual, spare parts catalog, repair manual, and BMW workshop rag.
