This January, Mecum auctioned off this CBX750FE for $4,400 (plus buyer’s premium). Now the new owner is looking for $6,995. Will he get it?
To American riders, the “CBX” designation is usually reserved for the famous inline six powered machine of the late 70s and early 80s. But in the mid 80s, Europe, South Africa and Australia were the primary destinations for a 747cc inline-four model. The British magazine Superbike once described the CBX as coming “closer to perfection than most. It is certainly the best 750cc road bike we’ve tested, and probably the best ever.” For more information on the model, check out Team RC17.
The seller of this example is annoyingly light on details, though I can see an aftermarket exhaust and tank pads. Helpfully, the Mecum listing notes that the bike is currently “supplied with US title, copy of UK registration document and UK MOT, vehicle safety and function test.” Hopefully those will be included in this sale, as well.
