Solvang Motorcycle Museum – Velox 125cc DOHC

The curiousities continue from Solvang: here’s a bike I had never heard of before and it’s apparently one of one. Meet the Velox!

Per the museum, “in 1948, two DOHC 125cc engines were developed in Italy – the Mondial and the Velox. The Mondial went on to win the 1949, 1950, & 1951 World Championships. The Velox went nowhere, with no record. This is the only one built. The bike & engine were built by Luigi Parena, who made DOHC conversions for Benelli race engines before the War.

This bike has lots of unique detail:
1. Unusual swing arm suspension in front and rear;

2. Oval frame tubing on most of the frame;

3. Aluminum brake hubs from Salvai

4. Chain driven DOHC
5. Separate oil pumps for cams and crankshaft.

The Achilles heel? I don’t know, but it must have had one, or no money to make more. It appears to be all original.”

I haven’t been able to find information beyond the above – do any of you guys and gals know anything more about Velox?
