5 years ago, I saw one of my favorite posts of all time on BikeEXIF – a crazy person had stuffed a CR500 motor into a Husqvarna supermoto to create a “Husqvonda.” It was a street-legal monster that was said to put down “80-85 horsepower to the rear wheel.” The bike isn’t in show condition any more, but it’s still insane – and now it’s for sale.
Said crazy person was Ted Boyko of Boyko Racing. You should read the BikeEXIF post, but the quick version of the story is that a customer asked Ted to stuff a ’86 CR500 two-stroker into the frame of his Husky SMR450. It took a lot of work but Ted was able to get the Honda motor to fit. The engine was bored to 520cc, and it produced the above-claimed horsepower. Eventually another customer saw the yet-to-be-completed bike. He became obsessed with it and bought it for himself – but the new owner required the bike to be street legal.
The seller is moving out of state and cannot take all of his motorcycles with him. He says this bike has sat for about 18 months – the seller got it 2 years ago and only put about 20 miles on it during his first 6 months of ownership. The amazing aspects of this bike are evident, but the seller takes a moment to explain what the current issues are, as well. This bike will need a new battery and the bodywork/graphics could use some love, too. There’s also three main aspects of damage – some plastic bodywork has broken, the exhaust pipe has marks from being hit by the kickstarter, and the clutch cover also has some heavy scratches from the rear brake pedal. This makes two crazy Husky SMR customs in as many weeks!
Find this Husqvonda for sale here on Craigslist for $7,000 in Davis, California.
