Street or Race? Pick a Matchless G80

Here are two nifty examples of the Matchless G80 – one’s a street bike that may have been owned by Bud Ekins, the other has been converted into an AHRMA dirt tracker that spent some time racing and was then displayed at the National Motorcycle Museum. Pick your poison.

First, the street bike.
Matchless G80 - Right Side
I’m having some trouble understanding the description from this seller, but it seems he/she is the third owner of this bike (VIN: A87612) which has 6,500 miles. My confusion comes from the description of the second owner – “A massless dealer in San Diego.” I’m assuming that was supposed to say Matchless. The seller says Bud was a family friend and really wanted this bike for some reason. The seller notes that it’s original except for the fenders, which were painted red in the 70s. It was last given a service and run 4 years ago. Find the street bike for sale in San Pedro, California with bidding up to $3,600 and the reserve not yet met

Or maybe you want to get your G80 dirty. In that case, here’s the street tracker for you.
Matchless G80 Street Tracker - In Museum

This bike (VIN: 6510C) is apparently equipped with lots of goodies, including a 57RR head, Amal GP carb, and more. It was built in ’61 but never raced until 2012, when it competed in the AHRMA “Brakeless Senior” division. After 2 years, it was displayed at the National Motorcycle Museum’s “Dirt Track Heroes” exhibit. The seller amusingly states
that it has a “10.5 to 1 piston so come take a look and if you can kick start it I’ll sell it to you for the right price.”
