I always thoroughly enjoy seeing other people’s wacky customs on Craigslist, and it doesn’t get much wackier than this straight up bonkers KZ400 build. Starting with a 1978 Kawasaki KZ400, this example has been transformed into a stretched, hard-tailed, jockey-shifted, bobber, because why not?
The bike was chopped in half, losing everything behind the tank. From there the front-end was lowered, and a sweeping dual-tube, hard-tail unit was added in place of the stock subframe and swing arm that extending the Kawa’s length by two feet. According to the ad, the bespoke bobber now stands at under three feet tall, and is a total of nine feet long. The aluminum solo saddle appears to be sitting roughly a foot off the ground, and the foot controls have been moved forward, resulting in a semi-leaned back, chopper-style riding position.
The stock wheels on the KZ were jettisoned for a set of new, larger diameter spoked units laced to purple rims. The front wheel now sports a single disc, while the rear-wheel is now adorned in a custom aluminum fender, and a hot-rod style taillight was tacked on. The front end now boasts clubman bars, aftermarket mirrors, and a Arlen Ness-type headlamp. A right hand-side jockey-shift was thrown into the mix too, just for good measure. The current owner claims the 400 is in solid mechanical shape, and that the bike “needs nothing”. Both the electric and kick-starters are said to be in working order as well.
You can find this awesomely weird, stretched 1978 Kawasaki KZ400 bobber for sale here on Craigslist in Toms Brook, Virginia with a price of $2,400.
