Post Listing Update: This Rickman did not get any interest at the asking price of $18,500.
The brothers Rickman made quite a name for themselves back in the day. Perhaps best known for the Rickman Metisse off-road racers, their modus operandi were their beautiful and effective nickel plated steel frames housing any manner of running gear. When the modern and powerful Japanese four-cylinder motorcycles made the scene in the ’70s, the brothers saw the potential for their particular brand of frame magic.
Sold as kits, the energetic homebuilder would provide the donor bike. The iconic Craig Vetter was the U.S. distributor and his kits included the shiny frame and swingarm, Lockheed brakes, Betor forks, Borrani rims and Girling shocks. The crowning touch, as seen here, was the gorgeous orange bodywork. An estimated 300 kits were sold worldwide, so the rarity factor is a given.
This example is provided with few details, but indicates 12,000 miles and a clear title. The provided photos promise a clean and complete Rickman. The seller is brokering several bikes for a collector—he does not have intimate knowledge of the bike, i.e., the actual model year may not be correct, but will provide contact information for the owner. The seller is in Medina, OH, but the bike is “located two hours away.” Due diligence is called for, as always. Depending on condition these Honda hybrids fetch up to about $20,000.
