The Shining – Something New In Headlight Design

We all know the story. You are riding home well after dark because you diddled around way too long after lunch and now wish you were home. You lean into a bit of a turn in the road and your headlight doesn’t track where you are going. Depending on the corner, you might have trouble even seeing the centerline at your apex. I immediately start thinking of all the furry creatures that might be in the darkness ahead.

There is hope for some of us. JW Speaker has introduced a new headlight that puts light into the direction of your lean angle as you corner, model number 8790. It’s a simple system that uses LED lenses built into the light that adds lighting as your bike leans over, and it works on low beams!

The system is a simple replacement bucket that fits a 7 inch headlight (a very standard round headlight size) and is a simple do it yourself product. The downside? Price and availability. MSRP is around $800 and the JW Speaker website doesn’t list it as available yet.

Price for the JW Speaker premium headlight to fit a 7 inch socket is $267 right now on Amazon so the $800 for the 8790 clearly makes it a premium upgrade. It could provide a lot of peace-of-mind if you can imagine a deer or elk or burrow crossing the road.

You can read the entire article announcing this new product right here on GizMag. Even if you don’t have a bike with a 7” headlight, the article is very entertaining.
