The Royal Enfield Continental GT is coming, and you should be excited. The lightest, fastest, and most powerful Enfield being produced, it’s the first truly new model in a long, long time. A bike that’s more about heritage than outright speed, it’s going to appeal to only a very small chunk of the American motorcycling market – I’m very curious to see how well it sells in the upcoming year or two.
RE announced this bike to the world with a video that makes you want to get on the road – 3 people riding 11,000 kilometers from the Ace Cafe to Madras Cafe on their cafe racers. How clever. Thanks to the beauty of off-camera support trucks, they look like they’re able to hit the road with nary a possession and enjoy streamlined travel:
I’ve loved the way this bike looks for a long time – I even got the chance to sit on one at the Long Beach Motorcycle show and wasn’t as disappointed as I prepared myself to be. If it wasn’t for the low output (29 horsepower), I’d already have a deposit down. I don’t want to make it seem like a bike has to be powerful to be fun (remember that I occasionally ride a 8 horsepower Honda S90 in Los Angeles), but I just feel like this bike looks much faster than it is, and I know I’d be disappointed by that. Maybe seeing this bike on the used market for a couple of grand less in a few years will change my mind. Enough personal opinion – here’s some more facts: it comes with an electric start and a kickstarter (something I swoon over), the 535cc single puts out 32 foot pounds of trque, and you’ll get Excel rims, Brembo brakes, and Paioli shocks.
This specific Royal Enfield Continental GT is being offered by the nation’s largest RE dealer. This is your chance to get one of the first Continental GT’s in the States, if you so desire. Normally, I’ve got some details to give you about the history of the bike for sale – but this one’s brand new!
