Honda brought the 3-wheeler to the US thanks to an engineer named Osamu Takeuchi. Osamu was simply trying to create a product that could bolster motorcycle sales during winter months, but by the time it was all over he had created something so prone to causing injury that the US Justice Department banned them entirely. The model line started with the ATC90 (All Terrain Cycle) but it wasn’t until the ATC185 that the popularity started to surge. In 1984, Honda introduced the ATC200 in both “M’ and “S” variants. Here’s an S model that’s said to be in excellent shape for its age.
Both trikes gained hydraulic telescoping over the 185s, though only the M featured an electric starter. The S was the cheaper option with a MSRP of $1,270 and just a pull starter. For more information, check out this post on 3 Wheeler World.
This example is claimed to be a “barn find time capsule.” The only flaw seems to be some wear on the rear plastics, but there are no cracks. It’s said to start on the first pull and run well, and it’s got a clear Arizona title. Find this ATC for sale in Queen Creek, Arizona here on Craigslist for $1,350.
