10-15-16 Update: Tom W notes that this bike is back up for sale. Even though no one seemed to want it at $10,999 8 months ago, the seller is now asking for $13,999 or best offer

Post-Listing Update: This Lightning reproduction got no interest at $10,999.

One of the coolest motorcycles to appear in the Bond franchise was the BSA ridden by Fiona Volpe that has missile launchers up front. Bit of trivia for you – the scene where the BSA blows up a car was filmed at Silverstone Circuit.

First things first – here’s the scene:

The rider was Bill Ivy (at the time, a British motorcycle racing champion) in a blonde wig. Apparently the ‘missile launcher’ on the BSA was functional, but the explosion in the black car was independently detonated by Bob Simmons, the film’s stunt coordinator (and driver of the exploding car).

More video tangents: the ‘making of’ scene was actually sponsored by Ford, who created a documentary called “A Child’s Guide to Blowing Up a Motor Car.” Here’s part 1, you should be able to see part 2 as a related link after this one ends:

Anyway, back to this bike. It’s a BSA Lightning that was restored in Italy between 2000-2002 – it’s unclear if the replica conversion was done as part of the restoration or beforehand. Either way, it has 725 miles on it (just 100 after the restoration) and the seller says it has won many awards.
