Post Listing Update: This SDR was pulled off of eBay, final sale price unknown.
Here’s a bike I’ve never heard of before – the Yamaha SDR 200. Originally built solely for as a JDM bike, a small amount of SDRs turned into grey-market motorcycles and were imported into Europe and the United States.
The SDR featured a two-stroke single cylinder engine with Yamaha’s YPVS technology. The 195cc engine was good for 34 horsepower, and the motorcycle had a 6-speed transmission. All of that came in a package that weighed just 253 pounds, enabling a claimed top speed of 99 miles per hour.
This specific Yamaha SDR 200 has 8,200 miles, of which only 500 have been put on since a restoration. The seller boldly claims that it is “most assuredly, the greatest SDR200 in the USA”. Seeing as it’s the only one I’ve seen stateside, I can’t really argue with him. The restoration included the replacement of several parts with new ones, powder coating the wheels, a $1,200 Jackal exhaust, and more. In May, it was voted bike of the month at the 2 Stroke World online forum.
