Tracker-Style Custom – 2016 Indian Scout

Almost as soon as Indian Motorcycle revealed its modern Scout cruiser back in 2014, riders were lamenting the fact the brand had chosen to put an enthusiastic, revvy V-twin in a platform that had the cornering ability of a refrigerator. (And, quite possibly some of the worst OEM tires imaginable). This feeling was exacerbated when Indian drafted in Roland Sands to create a bunch of flat-tracking “hooligan” bikes that were then raced at various hipster events ─ seemingly to taunt everyone who didn’t have the tools or experience to build one of their own.

Eventually, Indian delivered the FTR 1200 in 2021, of course. But in the interim years, several builders stepped in to fill the void. In the United Kingdom, for example, the Krazy Horse dealership franchise offered a so-called Street Tracker Kit that could transform your bike into the machine you wish Indian had made. Roland Sands Design offered something similar, though it was a little more aesthetic than performance-driven.

The inspiration for this particular bike ─ made by an unnamed professional builder in North Texas ─ seems to be somewhere between those two. It is littered with RSD parts but has also been re-tuned. The builder claims to have sunk more than $30,000 into this bike, but that figure almost certainly includes their time.

Custom builds are always a gamble, but the foundations here are solid. The liquid-cooled 1133cc V-twin that drove the Scout from 2014-2024 claimed 100 horsepower and 72 lb-ft of torque. Those were optimistic numbers, but there’s no denying the powerplant stood out in the cruiser world ─ sportier and more powerful than pretty much anything being offered by competitors at the time.

With just 140 miles on the clock and a Buy It Now price of $17,999.99 (if you ask me, all those nines make it look more expensive than simply pricing it at $18,000), this custom Indian Scout is for sale in Ridgecrest, California, here on eBay.
