The last major motorcycle from Triumph Meriden, the Triumph Trident was was a 750cc triple designed specifically for American market demands. Unfortunately, it was absolutely dominated by the Honda CB750.

Triumph Trident T160V - Rear Right

The twin of the BSA Rocket 3, this bike was produced from ’68-’75. 1974 marked the release of the T160 model, a last ditch effort to try and save mass production, as well as make the bike more competitive with the CB750. There were several incremental changes, including an electric start, left-side shifter, five-speed gearbox, front and rear discs, and new silencers to satisfy US noise requirements. Interestingly, this bike also “regressed” in styling to a more traditional Triumph design – management felt that the slightly adventurous styling of the previous generation had hurt sales.

This specific Triumph Trident (VIN: T160 BK02023) is being offered by the second owner (who acquired the bike back in 1981) and runs great. It has a Euro 5.5 gallon fuel tank that’s been repainted in a reverse paint scheme – see this link of a previous Trident for what they’re “supposed” to look like. There’s a couple of minor cosmetic issues, but this looks to be a solid example of a classic Brit – I’m always a big fan of bikes that have been with the current seller for decades.
