Post-Listing Update – This Bayliss Replica was relisted several times at lower prices, but the lowest offering of $29,300 was still too much to get it sold.
In 2002, Ducati released a Bayliss rep based on the 998S. 7 years later, they did the same (honoring his third and last World Superbike Championship) but with the 1098R, this time limiting production to 150 examples in the US (500 worldwide) with a MSRP of $43,995. This one owner example is now on offer for about 75% of that original figure. For more on the 1098R Bayliss, check out this profile from Motorcyclist.
The seller of this example (VIN: zdm1xbhw89b021575) has put some money in aftermarket parts – the question is if you think they add to the value. Apparently the owner had his/her Ducati dealership install factory Ducati Racing Corsa cams when the bike was new, then had a full titanium Akrapovic exhaust with carbon fiber mufflers installed. It also got a full Bazzaz fuel tuner system, Brembo RCS brake/clutch master cylinders, Speedymoto sprocket cover and frame slider kit, Ducati Performance clutch pressure plate, and more. Despite all that work, this bike has less than 2,000 miles on the odometer.
