TV Star – 1983 Honda FT500 Ascot Trike

In 3 Wheels, America, Custom, Japan by AbhiLeave a Comment

Post Listing Update: The BIN of this Ascot was lowered to $19,995, but that wasn’t enough to get a buyer.

Set in 2017, “The Fire Next Time” was a 1993 TV miniseries about how a family tries to survive a series of natural disasters that are brought about by global warming. It starred Craig T. Nelson and apparently featured this trike, a Honda-powered custom called the Kayak Land Speeder.

Per the seller, the Kayak Land Speeder “is a prototype vehicle built by gifted automotive designer Mark Murphy with a grant from the National Endowment For The Arts to “Design and Build a Minimum Vehicle Project that incorporates the efficiency of a motorcycle based power plant with the safety and convenience of a stable 3 wheel chassis”. Created in 1985, the original grant paperwork will also be included with the vehicle.

The drivetrain and frame are from a Honda FT500 (VIN: JH2PC0703DM100031), and the seller claims a top speed above 80 mph with fuel economy of about 75 mpg. I’m not sure I believe either number, but it sure is an oddity! Find the Kayak Land Speeder for sale in Thousand Oaks, California with a BIN of $24,995 or best offer
