As you probably know, the first 7,414 CB750s were built from sandcast molds before Soichiro Honda switched to a more expensive metal mold because there was clearly enough demand to justify the investment. As you also probably know, these “sandcast” bikes are now trading for crazy money. Here’s #28, and the seller states that it has all the unique features found in the very early (first ~100) bikes.
The seller of this example (VIN: CB750-1000028) says it’s “as original as you will find even down to the original Lotus Root exhausts” though it has been repainted. The bike was sold new in California and remained there until the seller (in Australia) acquired it six years ago. At some point in the past the motor got locked up – fixing that and the paint are the only things the seller did “to bring this bike back to its current condition.” I’m not a sandcast expert by any means, though the seller fancies himself one and says “There are some 90 odd differences between the early sandcasts and later K0 machines and this machine has them all.”
