When the Yamaha FJ1100 was introduced, the press were infatuated. Rider Magazine called it “the best large displacement sport motorcycle of 1984, and maybe even the best in its class in the history of motorcycling,” and other mags called it Bike of the Year. It revolutionized what sport-touring bikes would become – big power and plenty of plastic. But here’s one that’s ditched the touring part of the equation to focus on sport: it’s been turned into a race bike!
The stock bike made a claimed 125 horsepower at the crank – this one is a “full race” build that makes 144. Other modifications include an aluminum fuel tank under the seat, Yamaha R6 wheels, race exhaust, and a Penske shock. The seller notes that he bought it to race but it’s been sitting for a year doing nothing so it needs a new home, and that when he bought it he was told that it had “a bit of a misfire.”
I love seeing bikes that you wouldn’t expect on the track, and this definitely fits the bill!
