Something really magical happened in the fall of 2009. A group of guys, spending time together building motorcycles decided that they had enough interest in their work to start a company. Union Motorcycles say that they are careful to not call their work restorations, they prefer “renovations”. Whatever they want to call it, after a quick look at the work they do, it’s plain to see that what they do is fantastic. They are based out of Nampa, Idaho and truly are an example of customization at its best. They specialize in European bikes, one of which has already been featured on Bike-urious in April of 2018 by Abhi. The 1993 900SS featured in 2018 according to eBay sold for $19,100, a steal if you take the time to look at the bike: it’s squeeze-your-buddy’s-arm-when-you-first-see-it-good-looking, and that trend seems to run through most of Union’s work. To appreciate the work that went into this 2002, you really need to look at the bike they started with. The 2002 Ducati 900SS is far from a retro-styled bike from Ducati Sport Classic line up, in fact it was designed 8 years before the line started. The design, which was one of the first done by Pierre Terblanche, was polarizing. Sales of the bike were lackluster due to the love-it-or-hate-it looks. There were full fairing and half fairing versions available, but either way Union had their work cut out for them considering the results.
The seller of this 2002 isn’t sharing too much of the details of the build other than the color. The paint is “Graphite Grey” which is a Porsche color offered on their latest GT3. I know such things are in the eye of the beholder, but I think the color is stunning. Scanning the pictures on the post, the bike has Ducati Performance exhaust, Fox monoshock, and some trick engine casings. This is a rare opportunity to own a Union Custom motorbike, and I think that’s a pretty sound investment.
