People don’t buy side cars the way they used to. As a result, manufacturers aren’t inclined to allocate resources to better develop these passenger-friendly scoots, no new sidecar advances are made and sales remain low. It’s a vicious cycle. Ural is one of the only factory options when buying a bike with a sidecar today, the only problem is, to put it lightly, that Ural motorcycles aren’t the greatest. That was the reasoning behind this unique one-off “Scrambled” sidecar build. This 2014 Yamaha Bolt 950 R-Spec has not only been heavily customized, but it’s also been married to a Ural sidecar unit to deliver a lower maintenance and more dependable three wheeler that simply looks cooler than a stock Ural and would perform just as well off-road.

Though the Ural models do boast two-wheel drive unlike this custom, the Yamaha does have a leg up over the Russian machines with its fuel-injection and an additional 200 cc of displacement. Despite this Yamaha example being used, it only has 3,400 miles on the odo. The Bolt 950 can also easily be detached from the sidecar rig with a single (easily disconnectable) electronics plug that powers said rig.

Many upgrades and changes were made to the 2014 Bolt to give it more of a scrambler look and a little more off-road prowess. An aftermarket Cobra exhaust was added, however it is mounted uncomfortably close to the ground for non-road riding. It’s Bridgestone TrailWing tires do help in the dirt and all three wheels have been wrapped in them. A Baja designs headlight allows for better visibility, while all the bike’s wiring is custom. The seat and subframe have obviously been redone and quite a bit of custom fabrication was required in order to attach the sidecar. With all of the parts and labor, the seller is almost certainly loosing a decent amount of money on this sale, making it that much more appealing.

The Yamaha’s appearance is definitely another key selling point. While Urals sport a somewhat timeless and classic look, this example takes on a much more hip and modern aesthetic, only amplified by a full matching custom paint job found on both the Bolt and the sidecar rig. The number plates and LED lighting found – which is found throughout – both further the overall one-off look this example has going for it.
