This is a special Video Intermission because it features a Bike-urious reader! Brian Berry was one of 16 riders that took a 105 day ride last year from London to Magadan on the famous Road of Bones. This may sound familiar to you if you seen the Long Way Round, but the Road of Bones (also known as the Kolyma Highyway) is named because the road’s foundation is partially comprised of the remains of forced laborers who died while building the route.
Speaking of Long Way Round, Beyond Siberia is presented and narrated by Charley Boorman. Our new hero Brian started the trip on a ’07 BMW R1200GS but it unfortunately developed some issues in Istanbul with 93 days left in the trip. He switched to covering for other riders and somehow only spent 1.5 out of the remaining 93 days off a bike because riders were getting tired, sick, or hurt! He told me that in a six day period in Mongolia, six different riders got hurt with injuries varying from cuts to a broken leg and broken ribs. He also grew a badass beard, as you might expect from 106 days without a shave:
In the teaser video, you’ll see Brian on a Triumph Tiger at 1:03 in Mongolia and at 1:15 riding over the log bridge (as shown in the featured photo):
