As discussed in my review of the Yamaha R9, the world of “Supersport” has changed dramatically. Gone are the days of inline-4 600s, now we’ve got twins/triples/fours with a variety of displacements. Something else I discussed in my review was my fandom of Josh Hayes, so it was very cool to see him pull off yet another win (and the man just turned 50)! Come relive his glory with a quick highlight video from MotoAmerica.
This was a rain soaked race where his experience clearly paid off, the highlights are a bit of a carnage reel with some interesting crashes but overall I’d say it’s an entertaining watch:
After the first race weekend (two races) of the season in Supersport, the top five places are:
1. Mathew Scholtz Yamaha
2. PJ Jacobsen Ducati
3. Joshua Hayes Yamaha
4. Blake Davis Yamaha
5. (tie) Kayla Yaakov Ducati
5. (tie) Tyler Scott Suzuki
It’ll be interesting to see if Yamaha can stay out front all season long against the Ducati Panigale V2. Only one way to find out!
