Post Listing Update: After 6 bids on eBay, this TZ did not meet reserve at $4,363.24.
Introduced in 1973, Yamaha’s TZ250 was instantly competitive in club racing and was even able to make a dent at the GP level with a few modifications. Thanks to the aftermarket, it stayed competitive for 3 decades. The “C” model was the first major revision and it debuted in 1976 with a monoshock frame, disc brakes front and rear, and revised porting. This example is said to be a “real deal” racer, and that’s probably why it’s got some damage to the fairings on the right side.
The revisions for the ’76 motor bumped up power to 52 ponies, but the main improvements here were to the frame and braking systems. FOr more information and a timeline of the TZ models, check out TZ350.net.
This bike (VIN: 993105) is in generally good shape – the frame has been braced with triangular gussets and it’s crack free. The rebuilt motor is fed by 36mm Lectron carbs and the expansion chambers are from an “E” model (1978). The main issue is the cosmetic damage on the right side, and the fact that it will need a windscreen. The screen is easily replaceable, but the damage will take a bit more work.
