One of the craziest bikes we’ve ever featured on the auction site, this Vyrus 984 has been made even more exclusive with the addition of a design kit from VTOPIA – supposedly one of four such-equipped bikes in the world.
The 984 first debuted back in 2003 at the Padova Motorcycle Show. At the time, it was powered by a 991cc V-Twin pulled from a Ducati 900SS. Dry weight came in around 320lbs, and the engine was good for a thumping 87.5hp. Over the years, Vyrus has continued to improve on its concept. The current iteration of the bike keeps with the marque’s trademark double Omega frame and progressive suspension, though the engine has been upgraded to an 1100cc 2-valve block with a 98mm bore and a 71.5mm stoke. Paired with a 6-speed gearbox, it makes a claimed 100hp and it can take riders to a top speed just shy of 150mph.
In 2021, a small Italian customization outfit by the name of VTOPIA Design introduced a kit to modify the Vyrus 984. Dubbed the AG-SYS, it features some angular “low-polygon” carbon fiber bodywork that’s comprised of an aggressive monocoque front fairing, a set of custom air intakes, as well as a belly pan, a front fender, and a sharp, upswept seat and tail. As if that wasn’t enough, the kit also includes some bespoke CNC-machined components — such as the adjustable steering plate — along with a full titanium exhaust handmade by Italy’s SPARK Exhaust. All-in, the package runs about €19,700 (~$22,300). The seller notes that “this is one of four Vyrus 984s customized with the VTOPIA AG-SYS kit.”
This example is VIN: ZA998420RN8H50027. The seller reports that the “bike was originally owned by Ascanio Rodrigo — VYRUS Founder — and then sold to the second owner.” He is the third owner. The seller reports that the bike has covered approximately 500 kilometers since its VTOPIA Design conversion, however, true mileage is unknown. Vyrus’ are built-to-order, which means most owners go nuts with modifications. This example falls under that category, as it features Marvic forged aluminum wheels, custom aluminum fuel tank, a black frame (one of 11 984s done this way), SPARK full titanium exhaust, Mupo AB1 Evo shocks, Motogadget instrumentation, and plenty more. Plus…that bodywork. But if hte bodywork is a little too angular for you, the sale includes the stock Vyrus bodywork, which would make it look like this:
