When Kawasaki bumped up displacement of their 600cc class sportbike to 636, street riders rejoice. But spec racers found themselves in a predicament as the new bike was no longer allowed in their classes. Kawi took care of their racing customers by offering an extra “R” with the limited-production ZX-6RR. Though it gave up displacement and a small amount of power to the street bike, it came with the first slipper clutch on a production 600 as well as an adjustable swingarm pivot and some minor cosmetic changes. This example has been taken to the next level with some serious hardware upgrades, making it perfect for someone who’s looking for a street-legal track day weapon.
Despite the smaller displacement, this bike makes just 2 horsepower less than the 636 (123 horsepower total). For more on the double RR and why it may or may not have have been worth the extra $400 of MSRP, check out this review that originally appeared in the August 2003 issue of Sport Rider.
This example (VIN: JKAZX4N1X5A000935) has 26,642 miles and it has some serious money tied up in upgrades – Carrozzeria forged aluminum wheels, Race Tech suspension with multiple springs, Power Commnader 3, Ti-Force full titanium exhaust, Woodcraft crash protection, Pazzo shorty levers, Hyperpro steering damper, Galfer stianless steel brake lines, Pirelli Supercorsa SP tires, and plenty more. It also comes with most of the stock parts, if you want them.
