Been looking for a big enduro but you think the R1200GS is a bit too common? Have a seat and read on, my friend.
The Buell Ulysses XB12X is considered by some to be an ‘adventure sportbike’. Whatever you call it, it’s definitely a bit of an oddity when you consider it’s got a Harley powerplant. Built to be dirt capable (as opposed to the XB12XT tourer), the Ulysses featured mass centralisation, chassis rigidity and low unsprung weight, or as Buell called it, the “Trilogy of Technology”. It’s probably easiest to compare this to a Ducati Multistrada – you can take it on dirt but you probably wouldn’t want to tackle more than fire roads. (Yes, there are exceptions!) For more on the XB12X, check out this review from a 1,600 mile ride on Pashnit.
This example has TKC-80s so it’s already ahead of the game when it comes to serious dirt. The forks with progressive springs were rebuilt a month ago, it has LED lights, Rox risers, Moose hand guards, Oxford heated grips, high and low seats, T-Rex crash bars, lower rider pegs, Drummer exhaust, Touratech bash plate, Buell tank bag/tail bag, and 40 liter metal panniers! Still, this would be a great option for someone who wants a big dual-sport that you don’t see every day.
