Well Farkled – 2011 BMW R1200R Classic

Every once in a while you see a listing where the seller says “best version of this bike ever,” and you chuckle and move on. This time the seller’s claim of ‘best set-up R ever’ is worth a second look as the seller is Surj Gish, editor in chief of City Bike. Plus, even if he’s wrong, this bike is still well setup for someone that wants a solid jack-of-all-trades motorcycle.

The R1200R was given a refresh in 2011 and the Classic was a slightly more expensive package that got you the special paint and some chrome on the mirrors and exhaust. A GS always made more sense for my kind of riding (and for what it’s worth, the seller is moving on to a GS as well), but this is much better looking and it’s not like everyone has to pretend like they’re going touring on gravel every month.

This original-owner example has approximately 36,000 miles on it – it was his daily commuter and long distance bike since he bought it new. It’s equipped with heated grips, ABS, and traction control, plus the seller has put a whole bunch of extras on it – Outex tubless system for the spoked wheels, Doran TPMS, skidplate from a GS, protection for the cylinder heads and swingarm, BoosterPlug, Kaoko throttle lock, and a whole bunch more.
